It's Pom Pom Season

Monday, July 9, 2012

Image & Inspiration via A Pair & A Spare

Such great inspiration to re-vamp the old wardrobe. See how just shortening the hem and adding a simple trim can give you a great effect. Follow the simple steps below to create your own pair of pom pom shorts:

Images & Inspiration via A Pair & A Spare
Step 1: Trim your trousers to the desired length leaving 1" for seam allowance.

Step2: Fold and iron the bottom edge by 1/2"(do this twice) to create the hem of your shorts.

Step 3: Stitch the pressed hem in place using a straight stitch.

Step 4: Stitch the pom-pom trim to the bottom edge of the hem using a straight stitch.

Now it's time to show it off those legs of yours! Pair the shorts with a simple top and fun accessories.
Got to love a good summer craft!

This mason jar DIY really takes the cake! Whoever planned Surya + Nick's wedding reception did a fabulous job. I wouldn't mind making one of these just to hang in my dining room, no special occasion needed.

Here are the tools you need to make your own rustic chandelier:
-1/2" Thick Wood Plank
-Spade Bit to Drill Large Holes size of bit depends on diameter of jar
-Mason Jars
-Votive Candles
-Rope to Hang Chandelier

Happy Crafting ~

Art

Saturday, July 7, 2012

The highlight of my Paris trip has been basking in Art. From street corner graffiti tags to the Louvre's incredible sculpture collection, Paris is Art and Art is Paris. The exposure to all has left me a different person, one who adores a story even more and a painting one million times over a digital print.

I'm curious as to what will artistically surface from me post trip. Maybe a combination of both?

Be the hostess with the most and welcome your guests with this brilliant chalkboard idea! Using a couple coats of chalkboard paint and an old silver tray you can make a great greeting plaque, a dinner menu, or a fun serving tray. Such a brilliant DIY!

Summertime Tote

Wednesday, July 4, 2012

Suraj (a beginning sewing class grad) stopped by the shop this week to sew up a tote for one of his friends. He went for the twill weaves - denim and red/cream stripe oxford - to make the ultimate summertime tote. I think it turned out quite nice and funny enough, it matched his outfit!

Sew up a tote of your own - get the sewing pattern here or join in the fun and sign-up for a class.

Quilting Inspiration

Wednesday, July 4, 2012

The Patriotic Holiday has me seeing red, white and blue. Taking my design mood to the next level, I started looking on JoAnn Fabrics for some cotton fabrics and found a sweet color combo to make a simple block quilt. Sew one up for yourself and get inspired by perusing some downloadable quilt patterns here or join one of our Quilting Workshops!
Happy 4th!
